Staroxy 104 WB

Water based Epoxy Primer

Staroxy 104 WB

Description

It is a two-component water-based epoxy primer/moisture barrier for use with Staroxy levelling systems and Staroxy waterproofing systems. The product has low odour and is non-flammable.
Water-Based Epoxy Primer is formulated for spray application. It is a zero VOC, zero HAP, very low odor, two component, water-based epoxy primer.
This water-based epoxy primer is designed for adhesion and corrosion resistance, and for general maintenance use in moderate industrial environments for the corrosion protection of equipment and other steel surfaces. This coating is not suitable for continuous water immersion service. Since this coating is very low odor during application, it is ideal for use in warehouses, schools, healthcare facilities, food service areas, office buildings, hotels or in any area where odors are an issue.
This product is intended for application by spray. Use Water-based Epoxy primer for application by brush or roller. It complies with USFDA performance standards for food establishment facilities. This coating is impervious to moisture and easily cleaned and sanitized.

Uses

It is recommended as a primer for floor levelers and Staroxy waterproofing membranes. Staroxy 104 WB moisture barrier forms a sound surface for polyurethanes to adhere to and provides excellent adhesion to concrete, metal and wood.
Moisture barrier to negative side of underground walls to prevent moisture entry e.g. basements, retaining wall etc
Protective primer over damp concrete and mineral surfaces to allow finishes to be applied over without blistering or delamination
Protection against rising damp and efflorescence on wall and floor surfaces to protect overlay finishes including vinyl, carpet, tiles, timber, levelling compounds etc
Protective coating over “green” or damp concrete to prevent water vapour transmission

Advantages

Water-based - suitable for damp substrates.
Moisture Barrier – blocks moisture from moving through the substrate allowing the installation of levelling materials where there is a risk of moisture coming through the slab during curing.
Primer for non-porous substrates – used as part of Staroxy system.

Directions for Use

Substrate Requirements:
To secure lasting adhesion to the subsequent product all surfaces shall be clean, dry and free from any contamination. Substrates Temperatures must be a minimum of 55-60°F. and a maximum of 85°F.
Laitance deposits are best removed by Planetary diamond disc grinder or by captive blasting followed by vacuum cleaning to remove dust debris.
Substrate must be clean and free of Dirt, waxes, curing agents and any other foreign material that will interfere with bonding.

Surface preparation:
Remove oil, grease and any other contaminants using thinner. Blast clean to minimum Sa 2½ (Swedish standard SIS 05 5900). If blasting is not practically possible, make full use of mechanical tools to remove loose rust and scale to St.2 Swedish standard. Surface should be clean and dry before application of Staroxy 104 WB. New concrete or cementitious substrates should have been placed at least 28 days and have a moisture content of less than 5% before topping with Staroxy 104 WB.
After surface is dry, all repair work like sealing of joints, crack filling of cavities and crevices should be carried out.
If the surface is Tremix or smooth surface then Shot Blasting is carried out to make the surface rough in order to enhance the bonding of the primer.
Concrete defects such as voids, bug holes, excess porosity, and physical and chemical damage are usually filled or repaired prior to the installation of the F/C system. (Materials such as slurries, mortars, and polymer concrete are used to level, smooth and patch concrete surfaces.
The laitance (A thin, weak, brittle layer of cement and aggregate on concrete surface) on in-situ bases and any surface sealer or curing membrane should be entirely removed by suitable mechanized equipment, e.g. shot- blasting, panning or grinding, to expose cleanly the coarse aggregate

Mixing and Application:
1. Pack components are pre-weighed for optimum performance. Never split packs.
2. Stir resin thoroughly and then mix two parts of resin with one part of hardener by volume. Empty contents of Resin into a mixing container and pre-mix to assure the suspension of solids. Stir resin thoroughly and then mix one parts of resin with three part of hardener by volume.
3. Add Hardner and continue to mix to a uniform consistency for 1-2 minutes.
4. Mix with slow speed drill or manually depending on the quantity in mixing bucket and helical spinner head for 2 minutes.
5. Spread the mixture on the floor immediately and allow it to dry for 4 hours.

Method of Application
Primer is normally spread with a brush, floor squeegee or roller and back-rolled with a 3/8" medium nap roller. Care should be taken to minimize the entrapment of air caused by over rolling.

Packaging Size, Storage and Shelf Life

The product should be stored in accordance with national regulations. It should be kept in a cool, well-ventilated area, away from heat, direct sunlight, sparks and children. Handle with care. It has a shelf life of 12 months from the date of manufacturing. Available in 4 Kg, 8 Kg, 16 Kg, 60 Kg packs and has a maximum shelf life of 12 months in the un-opened containers.
