Recommended Uses
FUEL CONDITIONER
Stanrose® Dual Purpose will reduce sludge and gum formation in tanks, feed lines, oil pre-heaters, strainers and burners. Sludging potential of oil is greatly increased by the presence of water.
Stanrose® Dual Purpose contains an emulsion breaker which separates the water from the oil. This separation will also reduce some serious fireside slags. The sodium ion in saltwater if carried into the combustion chamber will reduce the melting point of vanadium forming a molten slag.
COMBUSTION CATALYST
Stanrose® Dual Purpose contains combustion catalysts which function by providing the fastest possible reaction time of the air fuel mixture assuring that complete combustion is achieved in the shortest time possible. This results in the minimization of soot, fly ash, intermediate combustion products and unburned particulate matter. Stanrose® Dual Purpose will prevent Low Temperature Corrosion by allowing minimum excess air conditions to be approached as a result of improved combustion reactions and by eliminating the catalytic effect that produces sulphur trioxide. Stanrose® Dual Purpose further protects against low temperature corrosion by preventing acidic deposits of particulate matter. By way of review, sulphur dioxide and sulphur trioxide are normal combustion products when firing fuels containing sulphur. The concentration of sulphur trioxide in the flue gas in relation to sulphur dioxide is dependant on the excess air employed and the presence of vanadium and iron oxide. It has been estimated that 75% of the sulphur trioxide is formed from sulphur dioxide in the combustion area. The reaction occurs as a result of sulphur dioxide combining with nascent oxygen and is aided by the catalytic effect of vanadium and iron oxide. Sulphur trioxide concentration in the flue gas determines the acid dew point. Acid dew point is defined as that temperature at which the water vapour present in the flue gas as a result of combustion can combine with sulphur trioxide to form sulphuric acid. Low temperature corrosion results when the flue gas cools below the acid dew point. This condition is found in pre-heaters, economizers, cold end of boilers and in the stack. This problem is particularly severe when maximum heat recovery from the flue gas is desired.
AIR POLLUTION
Stanrose® Dual Purpose will reduce air pollution by minimizing the amount of undesirable constituents in stack gases. Burning of fuel containing sulphur will result in the formation of sulphur dioxide and sulphur trioxide trioxide. The use of Stanrose® Dual Purpose and good combustion controls will retain most of the sulphur in the dioxide from and minimize the formation of the highly undesirable sulphur. Unburned residues and fly ash are also minimized in the stack gas because of the improved combustion reaction. This results in the maintaining of a clean stack and the reduction of undesirable particulate matter. The complete burning of the fuel will also eliminate the unwanted products of partial combustion such as aldehydes and ketones.
Method of Application
Average dosage rates are one litre per 2 to 4 tons of fuel, Apply directly to tanks when bunkering, normally down the souding tube. If sludge breaking is not a problem in the double bottoms apply directly to day tank or for more accurate control we recommend that Stanrose® Dual Purpose be metered directly into the fuel supply line. The best way is to start on a Diesel Engine, which has just completed overhaul. On such an engine, one can see the difference by checking following and comparing with the period when "Stanrose® Dual Purpose" was not being used.
1. Fuel Oil Filters condition / time between cleaning.
2. Fuel Injectors condition / time between overhauls.
3. Exhaust from the Engine - colour/ Extent.
4. Piston Rings Breakage if any caused due to unburned fuel and heavy carbon deposits.
5. Time between overhaul of Inlet / Exhaust Values.
6. Time between Piston overhaul.
7. Burning of Piston Heads.
8. Corrosion, if any, on components such as liner.
9. Presence of carbon in crank case oil caused by blow past due to sticky /broken Piston Rings. Since, complete combustion means full utilization of the calorific value of the fuel, there is a definite saving in specific Fuel consumption, when above conditions are maintained.
